Mandated by the United Nations General Assembly and guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF advocates for the protection of children’s rights and helps to meet their basic needs. They strive to establish international standards of behavior towards children. UNICEF is committed to ensuring special protection for children in disadvantaged situations (victims of war, extreme poverty, those with disabilities, etc.). The Committee responds in emergencies to protect the rights of children, promotes the equal rights of women and girls, and works towards the attainment of sustainable human development goals.
